LEAD QUEST DESIGNER
A Lead Quest Designer reports to the Design Director and supervises the quest design team, overseeing the design and development of all quest content for the game. They hold the creative vision for the quests in the game and can clearly communicate the storyline for the game and the challenges that face the player. They are accountable for ensuring that all quest content in the game is of the utmost quality and is consistent with the overall creative vision and story for the game.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Takes an active role in planning the design of all in-game quests, authoring and maintaining design documents, gathering reference and working with the other leads on the team to establish priorities for quest development
- Works with the Design Director and feature design leads to understand and provide feedback on the creative vision for all features and systems in the game
- Oversees creation of the quest design documents, ensuring that all designs are clearly and consistently documented in accordance with the design templates for the project
- Ensures that all designs are maintained and updated on a regular basis to reflect changes that may occur during the development of the game
- Reviews and provides feedback on all quest development in the game
- Mentors and provides career management for the quest designers on a game team
- Responsible for communicating the vision for quest content in the game and keeping the team up to date with any changes that occur over the course of development
- Works with the Design Director to ensure that product vision, narrative clarity and quality benchmarks are being met
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience working in a design capacity
- Must have shipped at least 3 AAA quality products working in a design capacity, at least one as a Lead Designer
- Must have experience in RPG and/or Action Adventure genres
- Must have console experience, preferably Next Generation (PS3, Xbox360, Nintendo Wii)
- Strong passion for games and excellent knowledge of video games, particularly RPGs
- Excellent documentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong decision-making skills
- Organizational ability
- Demonstrates high standards of excellence in work
Assets
- Post secondary education is an asset, particularly in the fields of game design, fine arts, computer science or film/cinematography
- Love for paper RPGs, board games and comic books.
- Love for creative writing (screenplays, novels, short stories, etc.)
Portfolio and Resume
Samples should include as many of the following as possible:- Playable level, designed by the applicant using an available game toolset
- Level design documents
- Feature design documents
- RPG module for paper RPG system
- Writing samples
- Any other relevant design materials
