STUDIO CREATIVE DIRECTOR
The Studio Creative Director reports to and works closely with the Studio GM. He/she nurtures the design job family at the studio, helping to mentor and develop our design talent. He/she establishes best practices for design across the studio and evaluates the creative direction of all products in development to ensure that they are innovative and of the highest possible quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent the Design Job Family at the studio level.
- Support, coach, mentor and evaluate the Design Job Family and particularly the Design Directors on each project.
- Constantly evaluate, adapt, establish and share best practices for design process and documentation within the studio and across Global DIS.
- Review and evaluate design documentation and deliverables on each title to ensure that the design teams are meeting their milestones.
- Establish and maintain training programs for Design Job Family, facilitating knowledge sharing between designers at the studio and across Global DIS.
- Establish and drive quarterly Design Council at studio.
- Review and provide feedback on all creative development for games in development at the studio, working with the Game Directors and Design Directors to ensure that product vision and quality benchmarks are being met.
- Collaborate with Director, Art and Director, Technology to ensure that design is in sync with Art and Tech on all products in development at the studio.
- Help reinforce, communicate and evangelize design vision for each product throughout the studio and across Global DIS.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten years professional experience working in a design capacity.
- Extensive experience working on AAA games, including at least five shipped products working in a design capacity, at least three of which as a Lead Designer.
- Must have strong console experience, including experience on "next generation" consoles (PS3, Xbox 360).
- Possesses a strong passion and expert knowledge for games of all genres, particularly Action and RPG.
- Expertise in design process and documentation.
- Strong understanding of both story structure and narrative.
- Diplomatic skills demonstrating a willingness and ability to listen.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strength in decision-making and analytical skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
Assets
- Post secondary education is an asset, particularly in the fields of game design, fine arts, computer science or film/cinematography
- Love for paper RPGs, board games and comic books.
- Creative writing abilities (screenplays, novels, short stories, etc.)
- Artistic and/or technical skills.
